Gymnastics Keeps Campers Flipping
by Brian Schlossberg

At Timberlane we have a great gymnastics program going on. The main teachers and assistants are: Mark Pearlstein, Darryl Beadle, Rick Mandel, Gary Gorchoff and John Meissner.

In gymnastics, either you are a good teacher, or you’re not a teacher at all. This is important, because if someone teaches you a stunt and he teaches you the slightest little detail wrong, you could hurt yourself severerly. So, that means that the teachers at Timberlane have to be qualified as experienced gymnasts. Also, if someone is doing a dangerous stunt, or is not too good at a stunt, they would need a spotter (a person that watches the one doing the stunt.)

Also, the teachers have to know how to stretch or exercise before doing stunts. This is because if you don’t stretch or exercise, your muscles will remain stiff or tight, and then when you do your stunt, you will pull your muscles or ligaments too fast. This can be dangerous.

One of the most important features of gymnastics is that there are many different areas in gymnastics such as trampolining, rings, parallel bars, floor exercise, horses and many others. In order to have a gymnastics program at Timberlane, we have to have the right equipment. We have good crash pads, a new horse, trampolines (eight), a spotting belt and a spring board.
