FROM THE EDITOR...

This past summer has been a very important one in the annals of Camp Timberlane. Many new ideas and events have helped make 1978 one that will be remembered by all of us.

This summer saw the youngest camp in the eighteen year history of Timberlane; not just in campers, but also in staff. Never before have so many activities been run by junior counselors and young senior counselors. This works as both an advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage is that a younger counselor usually has more enthusiasm, and can relate better to young campers than an older counselor. On the other hand, an older counselor has had more experience and training than a younger one usually does.

Another major event of 1978 was the inclusion of a number of Mexican boys in cabin group. This, for the most part, has worked out well. Though, we believe that if this trend is to continue, more steps must be taken to narrow the language barrier. Next summer should be pivotal as far as this subject is concerned.

Lastly, 1978 has been the first summer in which Harold Hiken has turned over the major reigns of running the camp. Mark Faiwell, Barry Schulman, and Mike Blechman have done an outstanding job: though the old “H” still has been the guiding light.

Through rain (and there has been plenty) and shine, the season and activities have flown by without a letup; making 1978 Timberlane’s banner year.
